Are you in love with the Watermelon Mojito Smoothie from Tropical Smoothie as much as we are?
We can’t get enough of this summertime, frozen, fruity, and yummy treat!
And since we were spending a king’s ransom on getting them (they’re so irresistible), we decided to create our own copycat Watermelon Mojitos.
This is the summer smoothie you didn’t know you needed until now!
Read on to see how we did it!

Watermelon Mojito Smoothie
Yes, these babies are pricey, like $6.35 (2019 price), and when the Mrs. and I each get one, that’s double!
And because we love them so much, I decided to recreate this limited-time summer offering.
The ingredients are not expensive (the most expensive items were the watermelon and the organic strawberries), so I figured I would try it at home in my kitchen, and lo and behold, EUREKA! I nailed it!
And if you love watermelon, be sure to try this watermelon drink!

This is one incredibly delicious smoothie, perfect for a hot day! It’s also watermelon season, and I can’t think of a better way to enjoy fresh and delicious watermelon.
Fresh fruit is always a good thing! With low-calorie watermelon and strawberries as the base of this smoothie, it’s loaded with antioxidants, fiber, and vitamin C.
And it is packed with healthy stuff, mostly all fresh, simple ingredients, except organic honey.
And if you want to omit the honey altogether, then, by all means, do so.
Ingredients needed to make a Watermelon Smoothie
Watermelon. Strawberries. For this smoothie recipe, I sliced nine strawberries in half, used twenty chunks of fresh watermelon, placed them on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper, and then put them in the freezer overnight.
In the morning, I put the watermelon cubes and sliced strawberries in a food processor and added five fresh mint leaves from our herb garden, along with the juice of one lime and two tablespoons of organic honey as it was mixing.
Honey. I made this smoothie with and without organic honey, and I preferred the recipe using honey. It’s only two tablespoons of organic sweetness, and, of course, you can use sweeteners like agave, date sugar, simple syrup, maple syrup, or whatever you prefer.
Alkaline water or filtered water. I also added about a quarter cup of alkaline water to make it more consistent. You can use tap water if you want, but filtered water is ideal.
Fresh mint leaves. Lime juice. There are many great benefits to using lime juice in your smoothies.

Benefits of drinking a smoothie
Let’s not forget the fresh-squeezed lime juice, a citrus powerhouse for many good reasons.

How to Make a Copycat Watermelon Mojito Smoothie from Tropical Smoothie
Makes two 16-ounce servings
Ingredients:
- 9 strawberries, sliced
- 20 watermelon 1″ x 1″ chunks
- 8-12 fresh mint leaves
- juice of 1 fresh lime
- 2-3 tablespoons of organic honey (optional)
- 1/4 cup chilled alkaline or filtered water

Directions on making a strawberry watermelon smoothie:
- Slice the strawberries and frozen watermelon and place them on a cookie sheet or baking sheet lined with parchment. Freeze overnight
- Add the frozen strawberry slices, watermelon chunks, mint leaves, the juice of 1 fresh lime, and organic honey into a food processor or blender.
- Secure the lid and pulse until all of the ingredients are well combined.
- Add chilled alkaline or filtered water to the food processor or blender’s porthole until you reach the consistency you like.
- Spoon into glasses and serve with a straw.
Notes:
- If you plan to use fresh watermelon, it’s best to choose seedless.
- However, you can use a large watermelon with seeds; remove them before freezing the watermelon cubes.
- When cutting the watermelon, use a cutting board so you don’t get watermelon juice everywhere.
- You will also want to ensure you have a ripe, juicy watermelon for the best results.
- Add a Creamier, Tropical Element- Swap part (or all) of the water for coconut water to give it that Tropical Smoothie flavor profile. It makes a noticeable difference.
- Adjust Sweetness After Blending- Depending on your fruit, you may need more or less honey. Taste before serving and adjust as needed.
- Want It Thicker?-Add a handful of ice and blend again for a smoother, more smoothie-style consistency rather than a slushy texture.
- Tiny Pinch of Salt (Optional)- It sounds small, but a pinch of sea salt helps bring out the fruit’s sweetness and balance the flavors.
- Optional Cocktail Upgrade- Add 1–2 ounces of white rum per serving, then blend for a frozen watermelon mojito.

What is alkaline water?
Alkaline water is water that has alkalinity.
This happens when water passes over rocks and picks up the minerals.
You will find that this naturally happens in springs and more.
Can I use something to replace water?
Consider swapping the water with coconut water if you want something different.
Or you could even use flavored water to change the flavor.

Does this taste like a Tropical Smoothie?
Yes, it is a copycat recipe.
This will give you a similar flavor to ordering your favorite smoothie.
The best part is using fresh ingredients for a sweet and refreshing flavor.

Can I add more fruit to this easy watermelon smoothie recipe?
Go right ahead and use any fruit you would like. Frozen fruit is key to any great smoothie, and this recipe is no exception.
Just freeze it as you do with the watermelon and strawberries.
It will help provide that ultra-creamy texture to the smoothie.

What to do with the leftover smoothie mixture?
A great way to use the leftover mixture is to fill a few large ice cube trays with the watermelon smoothie mixture.
Freeze overnight.
You can also pour the leftover mixture into an airtight container and place it in the freezer until ready to use it.

This is also a great way to start your morning because of its calming and soothing properties. Mint also promotes proper digestion, so there’s that.
The finished smoothie is perfect for any hot summer day or just any day.
You will make this once, get hooked on the flavor, and, like me, make it one of your favorite things.
Cheers to a delicious, fresh smoothie!
