Brown Sugar Pancakes Recipe
It’s Saturday morning, and you’re in the mood for pancakes. But not just any regular pancakes will do. You’re ready for something a little elevated, but still with minimal effort.
In that case, you’ll want to try our Brown Sugar Pancakes. For this recipe, we’re using Krusteaz Buttermilk Pancake Mix. Not only does it save us time in preparing these pancakes, but it also uses fewer ingredients.
If you’ve been around for a while, you know that we love Krusteaz products. We’ve been using them for years- quality ingredients we love and trust.
As parents of three boys, we used to have super busy, early weekend mornings. Kids are up for basketball tournaments, soccer, or just up at 7 am to start their day.
We are glad those days are behind us, and now our young adult men are usually among the last to get up on the weekend (unless they are working).
Now our weekends are slow and easy. Our Brown Sugar Pancakes are perfect for those weekend mornings when you want to have it slow and easy. And pair it with our Brown Sugar Latte (or French Toast Hot Chocolate), and you have a winning combination.

What You Will Need:
Krusteaz Buttermilk Pancake Mix. We love this brand of pancake mix. It’s a tried-and-true pancake mix made with quality ingredients. It also cuts down on the time it takes to make our pancakes while still giving you the made-from-scratch vibes. It also delivers that classic, fluffy texture without much effort.
Light Brown Sugar. This particular ingredient will add warmth and depth to your regular pancakes. It’s a subtle ingredient, but it enhances the flavor.
Milk. We prefer using milk in our pancake batter over milk because it gives the pancakes a richer, creamier texture.
Melted Butter. Adds moisture and flavor. It also helps create golden edges when cooking.
Egg. You don’t have to add the egg, but we highly recommend it. It will help give your pancakes better structure and a fluffier finish.

How To Make Brown Sugar Pancakes:
Serving Size: 4 (3-4 pancakes each)
- 2 1/3 cups of Krusteaz Buttermilk Pancake Mix
- 1/2 cup of light brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons of melted butter
- 1 1/3 cups of milk
- 1 egg
Directions:
- Place a nonstick skillet or griddle over medium heat (about 350°F if using an electric griddle).
- Lightly grease with butter or nonstick spray.
- In a medium bowl, combine: Krusteaz Buttermilk Pancake Mix, Light brown sugar, melted butter, egg, and milk.
- Gently stir until combined.
- Do not overmix; a few small lumps are perfectly fine.
- Pour about 1/4 cup of batter onto the preheated griddle for each pancake.
- Cook for 2–3 minutes, or until bubbles form on the surface and the edges look set.
- Flip and cook for an additional 1–2 minutes until golden brown.
Tips:
- Let the batter rest for 2-3 minutes before placing it on the griddle. This helps the pancakes cook up fluffy instead of flat.
- Cook on medium heat, not high. If you cook your pancakes too hot, you’ll end up with burnt edges and a still-raw middle, and we don’t want that!

Serve your Brown Sugar Pancakes with:

- sliced strawberries
Make Cinnamon Brown Sugar Pancakes!
If you would like to add a little razzle-dazzle to your Brown Sugar Pancakes, add cinnamon to the batter.
You will add 2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon when you add the light brown sugar to the Krusteaz Pancake batter.
Can I Make Brown Sugar Pancakes Without An Egg?
Yes. The egg helps the structure and makes the pancakes fluffier, but the recipe will still work without it.
Expect a slightly softer texture.
Can I Use Water Instead Of Milk In Pancake Mix?
You can substitute water for milk, but milk produces a creamier texture and fuller flavor.
For the best results in this recipe, milk is recommended.
Why Are My Pancakes Dense Instead Of Fluffy?
Dense pancakes are usually caused by overmixing the batter or skipping the rest time.
Stir until just combined and allow the batter to rest for 2–3 minutes before cooking.
How Do I Know When To Flip Pancakes?
Flip the pancakes when bubbles form across the surface, and the edges begin to look set. This typically takes 2–3 minutes on medium heat.
Cook the second side for an additional 1–2 minutes until golden brown.
Can I Freeze Brown Sugar Pancakes?
Yes, you can freeze the pancakes. Allow the pancakes to cool completely, then layer them with parchment paper in an airtight container.
Freeze for up to 2 months. Reheat in a toaster or oven until warmed through.
What Is The Best Temperature For Cooking Pancakes?
The ideal cooking temperature for pancakes is medium heat, around 350°F on an electric griddle.
Too hot and the outside burns before the inside cooks; too low and the pancakes turn dense and pale.

Now that you have the recipe, it’s time to give these brown sugar pancakes a try.
