Best Ingredients and Brands for Making Pretzel Bones:
When making Halloween pretzel bones, choosing the right ingredients makes assembling and dipping them much easier.
You want pretzel sticks that won’t snap easily when you’re attaching the marshmallows and a smooth white chocolate coating that gives the finished treats their signature bone-like appearance.
Best Pretzel Sticks: I recommend Snyder’s of Hanover and Rold Gold pretzel rolls as great options. They are thicker and sturdier than the traditional thin pretzel sticks.
Best White Chocolate and Candy Melts: Wilton Bright White Candy Melts are the convenient option for dipping because they are designed to melt into a smooth coating.
Another brand that works well for smooth dipping is Ghirardelli White Melting Wafers.
Best Parchment Paper: Reynolds Kitchens Parchment Paper is a reliable option for placing your dipped pretzel bones on while the chocolate sets. Its nonstick surface helps prevent the coating from sticking.
Wax paper can also work for cooling the dipped chocolate treats.
Tips for Melting White Chocolate in the Microwave:
White chocolate can be finicky at times.
Too much heat can turn the smooth coating into a thick, grainy mess.
Here’s a recommendation for microwave wattage:
700-900 watts- start with 20-second intervals
1000-1200 watts- use 15-20 second intervals
1300 watts or higher- reduce power to 50% and use 10-15 second intervals

Ingredients:
- 80 Mini Marshmallows
- 40 Pretzel Sticks
- 16 oz White Candy Melting Chips

Frank helped me create these pretzel bone treats. He may have even donated a bone or two. 😉
Directions on how to make Pretzel Bones
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper
- Push a mini marshmallow on each end of a pretzel stick.
- Melt white candy by heating it in the microwave for 45 seconds, stirring, and repeating until melted and smooth.
- Using a fork, dip in white chocolate to coat thoroughly, shaking off excess, and place on the prepared sheet.
- Refrigerate for 10 minutes to set.
- Optional: Use a sharp knife to trim off any excess chocolate that ran off.
- Heat chocolate for another 30 seconds and stir.
- Dip each bone again (shaking off excess) and return to the tray.
- Place in the refrigerator for 10 minutes to set up.

What Is The Best Chocolate To Use For Making These Bones
I use candy melts. They melt down creamy and dip and spread well. Then within a few minutes, it hardens up.
If you use white chocolate chips, add some shortening, like a teaspoon, as you melt down the chocolate.
This will help it set up quicker.
Can I Make These In Advance
If you’re using these as a dessert for your Halloween bash or a school party, prep ahead.
You can make these a day or two in advance. You don’t want to go too far in advance, or they’ll go stale.

How to Store Chocolate-Covered Pretzels
Store these pretzels in an airtight container or sealable bag.
I find that using parchment paper in between stacking layers helps prevent the treats from sticking together.

Can you freeze pretzel bones?
Don’t plan to eat these right away?
Freeze any leftover pretzels you don’t plan to eat immediately.
Place them in a proper container and store them in the freezer for 3-5 months.
Then thaw on the counter and enjoy it!
The marshmallows will change slightly in texture, but otherwise, these are a fun treat to keep on hand for when you crave sweets.

Can I Use Gluten-Free Pretzels
If you want a gluten-free Halloween dessert, swap classic pretzels for gluten-free pretzels.
This is a great way to create a tasty treat that fits their dietary needs.

So grab a few ingredients and make this fun, easy Halloween treat!
