Dirty Coke Drink Recipe

If you’re a Coke Lover, you’ll love this dirty Coke drink recipe I’m sharing.

I am a true Coca-Cola fan. I wouldn’t say I like it when I go to a restaurant, resort, etc., and they don’t sell Coca-Cola and try to offer me Pepsi. (The horror!)

This recipe is super easy to make, and serving it at your next BBQ, Game Night, or just for a refreshing way to cool you down will hit the spot for you and your guests!

Bottoms up!

What You Will Need

Coke.  A chilled bottle or can of Coca-Cola is the foundation of this drink. Its caramel flavor and carbonation pair perfectly with the coconut syrup and fresh lime.

Coconut Syrup. Coconut syrup gives Dirty Coke its signature tropical sweetness. You can use a store-bought syrup or make your own with sugar, water, and coconut extract.

Fresh Lime. Freshly squeezed lime juice brightens the drink and balances the sweetness of the Coke and coconut syrup. Fresh lime is highly recommended over bottled juice for the best flavor.

Homemade Whipped Cream. A generous dollop of homemade whipped cream creates the creamy finish that makes this drink so irresistible. If you’re short on time, store-bought whipped cream will also work.

How to make the best Dirty Coke

  1. Cut the lime into quarter lime wedges.
  2. Fill the serving glass with ice.
  3. Add 2 tablespoons of coconut syrup to the serving glass, then squeeze two lime wedges over the ice.
  4. Rim the glass with one of the lime wedges.
  5. Toss the squeezed limes into the glass for extra citrus flavor. Add the 12 ounces of chilled Coke and stir.
  6. Gently stir to combine the coconut syrup, lime juice, and Coke before topping with homemade whipped cream.
  7. Serve.

Side note: If you want to make this drink even dirtier, add 1-2 ounces of white or spiced rum. Cheers!

Directions on how to make coconut syrup:

Yield: 1 1/2 cups of coconut syrup

If you can’t find store-bought Coconut Syrup, you can make your own using our homemade recipe provided here.

You can also find it at HomeGoods or order online here.

Coconut Syrup: 1 cup sugar + 1 cup water + 2 tsp Coconut Flavor Extract

  1. Add 1 cup of water and 1 cup of sugar to a pan and bring to a boil, stirring occasionally.
  2. Allow the water and sugar mixture to boil for 3-5 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in the coconut flavor extract until well combined.

Allow the syrup to cool completely before using. Store the leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.

Ingredients for the Whipped Cream

  • 2 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 5 tbsps powdered sugar

Directions for making the homemade whipped cream:

  1. Chill the mixing bowl and the whisk attachment in the freezer for 15-20 minutes.
  2. Add the 2 1/2 cups of heavy cream to the stand mixer and mix at medium speed until the cream forms stiff peaks.
  3. Add the 5 tbsps of powdered sugar, then continue mixing until stiff peaks form.

Store the remaining whipped cream in an airtight container and place it in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Can I use Coke Zero or Diet Coke?

Absolutely! If you need or want to use Coke Zero or Diet Coke, go right ahead.

Just make the drink the same way.

Of course, you will find the flavor slightly different, but overall you will have the refreshing dirty Coke to sip on and enjoy.

Can I use other brands of pop?

I don’t see why you couldn’t use other brands of pop. Coke is the most popular and preferred choice.

Consider the flavor of the pop and how it may pair with the cream and coconut. Feel free to try it out!

Dirty Coke with Rum recipe

Can I make this alcoholic?

You can add 1-2 ounces of rum or even whiskey of your choice.

This will give it a nice punch when you sip, a great nightcap for the evening.

Can I make this drink in advance?

No. You will find it is best to make this glass by glass.

That way, you get your half and half on top of the Coke, so when you sip, it gives you the cream and Coke all in one.

If you do a larger pitcher, you will find that the glass’s ratio won’t be the same.

What Makes a Coke Dirty?

A Dirty Coke gets its signature flavor by adding coconut syrup, fresh lime juice, and whipped cream to classic Coca-Cola.

These simple additions turn an ordinary soda into a creamy, citrusy drink with a hint of tropical coconut.

What Alcohol Goes in Dirty Coke?

A traditional Dirty Coke is non-alcoholic, but it’s easy to make an adult version.

White rum and spiced rum are the most popular choices because they pair well with the coconut and lime flavors.

You can also add whiskey if you prefer a richer, caramel-like flavor.

Use 1 to 2 ounces of your favorite spirit for a boozy Dirty Coke.

Is Dirty Coke Made With Bitters?

No. A classic Dirty Coke does not contain bitters.

The original recipe is made with Coca-Cola, coconut syrup, fresh lime juice, and whipped cream or half-and-half.

Can You Make Dirty Coke Without Alcohol?

Yes, our recipe for Dirty Coke is alcohol-free.

The combination of Coke, coconut syrup, lime juice, and whipped cream creates a drink that’s perfect for family gatherings, parties, movie nights, and anyone looking for a fun soda-based mocktail.

What Is the Difference Between Dirty Coke and Dirty Soda?

Dirty soda is a broad category of drinks made by mixing soda with flavored syrups, cream, fruit juice, or other flavorings.

Dirty Coke is one specific type of dirty soda that uses Coca-Cola as the base.

Other dirty sodas may be made with Dr Pepper, Sprite, root beer, or other soft drinks, each with its own unique combination of syrups and add-ins.

Why did my half-and-half curdle in dirty Coke?

The lime juice being acidic can curdle once combined in the glass.

Take note that this is normal, and it will still taste good.

You can use a stirrer to gently mix it up to help break up the curdle if you like.
