On our red, white, and blue grazing board, we have a combination of fresh fruit, creamy cheeses, savory meats, sweet treats, and fun, festive details. It really is a show stopper!

How To Build A Red, White & Blue Grazing Board

Step 1: Start With Larger Anchor Items

I wanted to create a red, white, and blue order across the board, starting with the star in the middle.

I started by using a star-shaped cookie cutter in the middle of this marble board, then filled it with the red, white, and blue M&M’s.

Step 2: Add The Meats

Fold or roll the salami and place it near cheeses and dips.

Creating small clusters throughout the board makes it feel full and intentional.

Step 3: Layer In Fruit

Add strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, cherries, blackberries, and cherry plums throughout the board.

Slice dragon fruit and tuck pieces into open spaces.

Step 4: Add Cookies And Sweet Treats

Arrange cookies, pretzel rods, candy bars, and M&M candies around the board.

Step 5: Fill Every Empty Space

This is where the magic happens. Add mini cupcakes, bowls of preserves and aioli, and your cheeses across the board.

Scatter blueberries, M&Ms, and smaller fruit into empty spots until the board feels abundant and full.

I also placed the cookie stars on top of the meats, cheeses, and other items across the board.

Tips For Creating A Beautiful Grazing Board

  • Work in odd numbers whenever possible
  • Place similar colors throughout the board rather than clustering them.
  • Build from the largest items to the smallest
  • Mix heights and textures
  • Leave some items whole and slice others for variety
  • Don’t overthink perfection

Make It Ahead:

You can prep most ingredients several hours in advance. Wash fruit, cut cheeses, and portion meats beforehand.

Store everything separately in airtight containers and assemble shortly before guests arrive.

Can I Make This Grazing Board The Night Before?

You can prep the ingredients ahead of time, but assemble the board a few hours before serving.

What Size Board Should I Use?

A large wooden board, serving tray, or even a sheet pan lined with parchment works well.

Can I Customize This Board?

Yes! That is the fun thing about grazing boards: you can make them based on what you want to add to them.

You can also customize it for gluten-free guests, vegan, etc.

How Many People Does This Serve?

This board comfortably serves approximately 4-6 people. If you are serving it as an appetizer, you can stretch it to about 8-10 people.

What Can I Add For More Protein?

Add turkey slices, pepperoni, prosciutto, nuts, or even small skewers.

Now that you have all the tips and ingredient list, you can print it out below.

Feel free to customize this 4th of July board however you feel!
